Notes |
- In Moore County, during the early 1800's, there were two large households of Meltons that each had a number of children born between 1790-1810. These two men, James and Ansel, were believed to be first cousins but may have been brothers. James [1774-1840] was listed in the 1800, 1810 and 1820 census with a total of six sons born between 1790-1810. Ansel [1773-aft 1850] was listed in the 1810, 1820, and 1830 census with a total of five sons born between 1794-1820.
It has been passed down through Ansel's family tradition that he was the father of Jesse [b.1794-1800], William [b.1800-1804], Isaiah [b.1800-1810], Robert [b.1805] and John [b.1814].
It is fairly certain that James was the father of Robert [b. 1803], James [b.1805], and Ansel [b.1804-10]. It is also my belief that James was the father of Henry [b.1800] and Hiram [b.1804-1810]. It is possible that he was the father of John Melton [b. bef 1794] but less likely.
