By Oct 31, 1862 was absent as he had been sent home to Randolph County due to sickness. Furloughed from Wayside Hospital, Richmond, VA on Sep 30, 1862. Admitted to Medical Director's Office in Richmond, VA on Feb 18, 1863 and transferred to Chimborazo Hospital, Richmond, VA for Rheumatism on Apr 2, 1863. Released from Wayside Hospital, Richmond, VA in Jul 1863 but did not return to duty. Wounded on May 5, 1864 by gunshot wound to the chest. Admitted to CSA General Hospital, Charlottesville, VA on Jun 6, 1864 and transferred to Lynchburg, VA. Transferred to CSA General Hospital, Danville, VA on Jun 16, 1864. Transferred to Pettigrew General Hospital, Raleigh, NC on Jun 28, 1864 then on to Greensboro, NC. Paroled as a Prisoner of War on May 16, 1865 as a result of the end of the Civil War.
