  Notes	1903, Dec 3 -- Article, Carthage Blade [Carthage, NC] Newspaper "Murder Will Out: The Make Ray Disappearance Probably Explained -- Mr. I.F. Chandler, of Southern Pines, was here yesterday, and told of being in Troy Tuesday, where there is much excitement about the supposed solution of the mystery surrounding the disappearance of Make Ray, an employee of the Mills Lumber Company, about a year and a half ago. On Tuesday, a negro boy informed the Montgomery County authorities that he knew all about Ray's disappearance and murder. He said his father and two other negroes murdered Ray of $71 and buried in a negro graveyard in a newly made grave, and that he held the light while the others did the burying. The boy said they threatened to kill him if he did not hold the light, or if he ever told about the murder. He says his father has driven hm from home, and he concluded to tell on hi. The authorities were to go yesterday to open the grave and see if the boy's story was true, but we have not learned as yet the result of the examination. Mr. Ray was a son of Mr. Archie Ray, who lives about 5 miles south of town. At the time of the disappearance Mr. W.W. Mills offered $1,000 for the return of Ray's body, dead or alive. "
