    Notes
    • Celia Wallace (1788-1862) married Shadrach Maness (1770-1858), one of the triplet sons of Revolutionary War soldier William Maness. Celia and Shadrach were the parents of Catherine, Everett, Asa, Lucretia, Alsey, and Ira Lane. Several of their children married into the following families and many of their descendants still reside in upper Moore County, NC: Stutts, Ritter, Shields, and Cagle. Everett Maness and his family moved to Forsyth County, GA .

Contrary to popular belief, I have not included Ann Mariah Maness (1800-aft 1880), wife of Jacob C. Stutts, as a daughter of Shadrach Maness and Celia Wallace. I have always believed that Ann Mariah was the daughter of Shadrach Maness and a previous wife. My belief is that Celia was actually the female listed in Everet Wallace's house in 1800 as being between the ages of 10-16 years old. It is entirely possible that Celia was not married and had not yet moved from her father's house at the time the census was taken. Also, she quite possibly could still be residing with her father in 1810 as he had a female listed as being between the ages of 16-26 years old. I find it very interesting that there is a 14 year gap between Mariah b.1800 and Catherine b. 1814.

For instance look at the ages of the parents at the times of the supposed births---
      Mariah 1800--
Shadrach (1770) would have been around 30 years old
Celia (1788) would have been around 12 years old
      Catherine 1814--
Shadrach (1770) would have been around 44 years old
Celia (1788) would have been around 26

Given the ages, even if they are off by a few years--I believe that Shadrach Maness would have been more likely to have married Celia around 1810 when he was 40 and she was in her early twenties than in 1800, when he would have been around 30 and she would have been at the oldest 15 years old given her father's own birth around 1770...

Some of these names appear to be actual signatures while others are clearly written by the same person as other names around them. The Randolph County petition suffered from similar challenges including some signers that would be under 21 years old. Regardless, this is quite a list of northern Moore County residents during the late 1780's.]
