"Mrs. Sarah Pierce Stewart died on Feb 18, 1920, of neuralgia of the heart at the home of her son, Mr. Neill Stewart, with whom she had been living for a few years. Mrs. Stewart was seventy-seven years old. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tommie Pierce of Randolph County. Mrs. Stewart was the third wife of the late Elias Stewart. To this union four children were born: Mr. Neill Stewart, Mrs. Jesse Sullivan, Mrs. Emma Cole of Carthage, NC and Mrs. Arnold Clark who preceded her to the grave several years ago. She is survived by six step-sons, one brother, Mr. Kelly Pierce of Philadelphia, PA and one sister, Mrs. Johnson of Ramseur, NC. She united with the M.E. Church in early life. There could not have been a more consistent member. Her life should be an example to all of us. It was full of faith, love, sacrifice and service. She was a good neighbor, ever ready to share your joys or sorrows, and lend a hand when needed. Mrs. Stewart's christian character was emphasized in her good will towards everybody. She never spoke unkindly of any one. She was goodness within, truth, virtue, love and sympathy, the inward adornings of Christianity. L.E.M."
